The Folly of Wagyu + It’s Never Goodbye

Written by Syed Shamim

The Folly of Wagyu

My friends and I want wagyu,

To show off to the World,

Foolish, no reservation,

This ramen will do.

It’s Never Goodbye

Here I go again, back in Japan,

Where to begin, am I alone?

No, with new friends.

To the country that taught me to be,

That to be is to be, in service and ease,

Through actions and deeds,

Content with God's decree.

Perfection and imperfection,

Wabi sabi,

Tradition and contemporary,

Together in harmony.

The hustle of Shibuya,

The lights of Akihabara,

The glam of Ginza,

Nourished by Uji's matcha.

This lantern at Fuji's foothold,

It takes warmth from the Rising Sun,

When twilight starts to twinkle,

It shares its light, illuminating everyone.

I write this poem as an ode,

To the land that taught me to be,

And to say its never goodbye,

Rather, until the next time.
